Renaissance faire in Keokuk this weekend
The fourth annual Tri-State Renaissance Faire will be held in Keokuk’s Rand Park this weekend, June 1st and 2nd. Hours are 10 a.m. to dusk on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is free.
World-record-holding juggler Brian Pankey is returning to the Faire this year. He will be performing his amazing juggling feats at 7 p.m. on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Following Pankey’s Saturday evening performance, Enid’s Baton Twirling will give a demonstration of Fire Batons. New this year is the wacky Renaissance performing troupe, Stulto Mori, up to their crazy antics throughout the Faire.
Another new group is the Realm of Middle Earth, a local branch of Dagorhir, a national organization dedicated to live-action roleplaying and combat, similar to the S.C.A. They will be performing skits and combat demonstrations, with opportunities for the audience to take part.
The Southeast Iowa Quidditch League will be on hand to demonstrate how “Muggles” can play this Harry Potter game. Faire attendees will also be treated to live music. Celtic folk band, Silverthorn, will be performing at noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Local music group, The Islanders, will be performing at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Raeann School of Dance will give performances at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Saturday, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. To remind us that there were civilizations in other parts of the globe during the Renaissance era, the Faire will also feature a Native American encampment. Native storytellers will perform on the stage at noon on Sunday.
Artisans and vendors will be selling wares ranging from jewelry to yard art to handmade soaps. Food will also be available, including Sir Gerome’s famous turkey legs.
Other all-day events include archery, children’s carnival games, and face-painting. Nauvoo on the Road will offer free rope-making and other historical crafts for kids on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Come to Faire headquarters, in the small shelter house (it looks like a wizard’s hat) for information, game tickets, and raffle tickets for a chance to win a costume from Ladybug Garb & Finery.
