Quad City Choral Arts, under the direction of Jon Hurty will present a concert of French choral masterpieces at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA. Tickets are $10 ($7 for seniors; student with ID are free) and can be purchased at the door.

Works on the concert are:

Requiem, Maurice Duruflé

Quatre Motets, Maurice Duruflé

Cantique de Jean Racine, Gabriel Fauré

The program will open with Fauré’s beautiful and contemplative Cantique de Jean Racine—A short work that has become one of the most popular French choral anthems. Fauré’s song-like compositional style is very evident in this work.

The central selections on the concert are Duruflé’s Quatre motets—four a cappella anthems based on Gregorian melodies. Each of these four short anthems has it’s own unique character and style.

The program will conclude with Duruflé’s magnificent Requiem—one of the great 20th century examples of French choral composition. The work is both dramatic and reflective and features the 40-voice QCCA choir and a virtuosic organ accompaniment provided by guest artist, Chris Nelson. He has played the work with other choirs in the United States and the piece highlights his significant skill and musicianship.
