The Nova Singers present "A Nova Christmas.

Nova Singers, under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, presents two performances of A Nova Christmas, Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa, and Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, Galesburg.

Nova Singers’ most popular concert of the year is just around the corner!  This year’s program features a variety of Christmas carols from around the world, including The Huron Carol, arranged by Eleanor Daley, Australian carol The Southern Cross by Stephen Leek, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Fred Coots. In addition to the carols, Nova Singers will also perform Morten Lauridsen’s beautiful O Magnum Mysterium and  the gentle, soaring harmonies of Rachmaninov’s Bogoroditse Devo. And it wouldn’t be A Nova Christmas without an audience sing-along!

Artistic Director Laura Lane is very excited about the programming for this concert. "People tell me what they love most about the Nova Christmas concerts is the variety of the selections, musically and emotionally. Well, we definitely have  both kinds of variety this year! Jesus Christ the Apple Tree is the favorite of many because of its intimacy and tenderness. Eric Whitacre's Lux Aurumque is luminous and haunting -- the last minute is so beautiful and surprising that you just don't want to breathe. Our vocal jazz arrangement of Santa Claus is Coming to Town is both fun and funny, and Dance of the Sugar-Plum  Fairy is down-right silly! In this time of international strife, economic fear and personal hardship, perhaps a little beauty, tenderness, joy and laughter are just what we all need."

Nova Singers, a professional vocal ensemble under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, hopes to share  our musical holiday spirit with you. Nova Singers is known for bringing a wide variety of choral music to its audiences, and for the beauty and charm the singers impart  to their music. Dr. Lane has been serving the greater Galesburg and Quad-Cities communities since 1986, bringing her passion for music and expressive singing to audiences and singers alike.

Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. Students are admitted free of charge. Nova Singers season tickets will still be available through this performance. Season ticket holders receive three concerts for the price of two.
