Sweden’s 2012 “Jenny Lind,: mezzo-soprano Josefine Andersson of the Copenhagen Opera Academy will present a concert at the Jenny Lind Chapel in Andover on Sunday, June 17, 11 a.m.  A free-will offering will be taken for the Jenny Lind Chapel.  At 10 o’clock, prior to the concert, light refreshments will be served in Luther Hall at the nearby Augustana Lutheran Church.

Ms. Andersson is in her last year of studies at the Copenhagen Opera Academy.  She was selected for “her well-modulated, clear voice and captivating presence.”  Last year, she appeared as lead soprano in Rossini’s Cinderella, and the Royal Danish Opera´s Ariadne auf Naxos, then later in Lulu.  She will sing the leading role at the Stockholm Folk Opera’s performance of G.F. Händel´s Julius Caesar.  During her national “Jenny Lind” tour, Ms. Andersson will perform classics made famous by “the Swedish nightingale” Jenny Lind, in the 1850’s, during her triumphant concert tour of America, managed by promoter and circus genius P.T. Barnum.  During the tour, Ms. Lind made a generous $1,500 gift to help construct the church in Andover (later named in her honor), which was destined to become the Mother Church of the Augustana Lutheran Church in America.

Ms. Andersson’s repertoire includes Jenny Lind classics, Scandinavian romantic songs by Grieg, Stenhammar and W. Peterson-Berger, plus international classics by Händel, Liszt, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Gounod and Fauré.  Her accompanist is Ms. Nigar Dadeschava of Sweden’s Royal Music Academy, “Otto Goldschmidt” Piano Scholar.  Their U.S. tour is arranged through the Folkparkerna Concert Organization in cooperation with the Royal Music Academy of Sweden.

Ms. Anderson will also present a Midsummer’s Eve concert at First Lutheran Church in Rock Island at 7:30 p.m. the same day, following the traditional 5 p.m. Midsummer activities and an ice cream social offered by the Augustana Alumni Association.
