Max Armstrong, the host of This Week in Agribusiness will preside over the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Mercer County Youth Livestock Auction. The event held in conjunction with the Mercer County Fair will be Friday, July 13, 2018 at 6:00 pm.
Aledo, Illinois, July 3, 2018 – Benefitting youth livestock exhibitors since its inception in 1993, the Mercer County Youth Livestock Auction is celebrating its 25th anniversary. In addition to other special activities, the highlight of this year’s auction will be a special guest, Max Armstrong.
Over the course of 25 years, the auction has been an event that allows the livestock exhibitors to be rewarded for their hard work, dedication and showmanship by the community. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been routed through the auction to the hundreds of youth who have participated over the history of the event. Every year, the champion of each species leads off the auction. Once the champions are auctioned, each market entry is auctioned.
The long and successful history of the event has its base in support from the community, including several buying groups. If someone wants to support the auction but may not want to purchase a whole animal or buy just one when they want to support all the kids, they can give money to one of the buying groups. “That’s the secret to the success of the auction, those buying groups make sure that each kid goes home with something and helps support the bottom line of the event”, says Mike Peterson, Auction Board Member.
As always, the buyers will receive a picture of the youth with their project, but for the 25th anniversary, each buyer will also receive a commemorative mug. In addition to the auction, there will also be the presentation of the Phyllis Nelson Memorial Livestock Scholarship to graduating Seniors who are involved in livestock events at the Mercer County Fair.
