Rain Strikes Again ... Davenport Speedway Cancelled

For the third consecutive week, rain has washed out the Koehler Electric Season Opener at the Davenport Speedway. Over an inch of rain Friday morning, has made track preparation on the quarter-mile dirt oval impossible.

While rainouts are a pain for racers, fans and promoters alike, they really hurt drivers in the IMCA Late Model and IMCA Modified divisions. Racers in these two classes are competing for state and national points, as well as the local track championship.

Davenport Speedway regular, Kevin Blum of Colona., was the 2009 IMCA Late Model national champion. Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, and Matt Ryan of Davenport also placed in the top ten of IMCA Late Model national points last season.

The season opener will be held next Friday, May 14. Five of the six weekly classes will be competing: Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, Goacher Towing Pro Mods, Engineered Maintenance Service IMCA Modifieds, Koehler Electric Street Stocks, and 4 Cylinder Stocks.

Pit gates at Davenport open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6pm and racing starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street, in Davenport.
