University of Illinois Extension offers Youth Cooking Classes in October

Youth between the ages of 8 and 12 years old who receive free or reduced lunches at school can sign up for cooking classes at University of Illinois Extension, Rock Island County. Offered through SNAP-Ed - the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education,  the cooking classes will teach basic cooking skills, the science behind food preparation, the nutritional contribution of each food group, food and kitchen safety, how to cut, mix, cook and more.  Classes are $5 per person. Students can pick from two sessions: Monday – Friday, 1-4 p.m. Oct. 4-8, or  Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to noon October 11-15.  Classes will be held at Rock Island County Extension, 321 W 2nd Avenue, Milan.  To register call Pat (309) 756-9978 ext. 24 or Cheryl at ext 23.
