Texting While Driving Simulator Sept. 12
Carl Sandburg College will host a texting while driving simulator from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, in the B Building parking lot at the Main Campus in Galesburg. The Carl Sandburg College Office of Student Life and Student Government Association are sponsoring the simulator. The purpose of this event to promote safety while operating a vehicle. This event is free and open to the public.
According to the PEER Awareness website, texting has been proven to endanger drivers up to eight times more than alcohol. The PEER Awareness program will deeply and significantly expose Carl Sandburg College students to the dangers of texting while driving with a state-of-the-art virtual reality simulator.
“This is a really important issue with students today,” said Casey Carlson, president of the Carl Sandburg College Student Government Association. “It’s so easy to get in the habit of texting while driving and we want to spread the word to just put the phone down.” Participants will have a chance to sign a pledge wall to commit to not texting while driving.
