Area residents will have the opportunity to learn basic principles of safe hunting at a free Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) hunter safety course on March 25 & 26 at The First Christian Church in Keithsburg, IL. This class is from 12:00 Noon - 5:00 P.M. on both days. Must attend both days to pass the course.

A 1996 state law requires that all hunters born on or after January 1, 1980, successfully complete the hunter education course before they can receive a Hunter Education Certification card verifying that they have passed the course of instruction.

This will be an excellent opportunity for hunters who need the course in order to qualify for their hunting license. It can be beneficial for both beginning and advanced hunters, even those born before January 1, 1980.

The minimum ten hour course includes instruction in firearms safety, hunter ethics, treestand safety, wildlife management, game identification, first aid, survival techniques, laws and regulations.

Pre-registration is required for both classes. To register for the class, call (309) 374-2571. Additional information on this and other Safety Education courses can be found by phoning 1-800-832-2599 or on-line at; https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/safety/Pages/ListOfEducationCoursesByCounty.aspx
