Football season is underway with boys from fifth grade through high school playing each week. The Youth Program white and green teams of fifth and sixth graders played in Orion on Sunday, Sept. 7. This was their first game of the season with the green team winning but the white team didn't. Their games on Sept. 14 are in Aledo starting at 1 p.m. and Muscatine on Sept. 21. The Aledo-Westmer High School football team is ranked second in the state in 3A. They have two wins under their belt against West Hancock and Annawan-Wethersfield. Their next three games are away at Alwood-ROWVA, Illini West, and Elmwood-Brimfield. Oct. 3 will be homecoming with the Aledo -Westmer Green Dragons playing North Fulton. Caleb Wheele,r son of Keith and Kelly Wheeler, and Alec Blaser, son of Derek and Karla Blaser, are both freshmen on the Aledo-Westmer JV football team. Mason Bush, son of Skip and Wendy Bush, is on the varsity team.

Birthdays in the area include Cody Johnson, four-year-old son of Jill and Bill Johnson of rural Seaton. He was born on Aug. 17. Mary Schrock celebrated a birthday on Aug. 30 and Carly Jo, "CJ" Milewski had her 15th birthday on Labor Day weekend.  CJ is the daughter of Jae and Sloane Milewski and a freshman at Aledo High School. She is on the volleyball team that started its season on Sept. 2.

Kelly Wheeler of Seaton celebrated a birthday last Saturday -- 39 and holding. The Wheeler family had its annual fish fry at the Seaton Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 6, her birthday. Many Members of the family and some friends enjoyed the good food.
