Pettie wins Olympic Conference title

Sherrard's Shelbie Pettie won the Olympic Conference meet Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008,  at Monmouth Park. Pettie finished the meet in a time of 19:29 more than 36 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.

Rocket Codee Pedersen's eight place finish helped the Rockets to a third place finish in the conference standings.

While the Tiger took first place it was Monmouth-Roseville winning the meet with a score of 24. Other school scores were: Sherrard, 57; Rockridge, 61; Orion, 110 and Macomb, 135.

Titans Ciara Marlow, Mandy Champion and Marcela Gillen finished 2-3-4 in the team scoring and Kaitlyn Farmer and Chelsea Langford placed sixth and ninth to give the Titans a strong team score.

Rockridge coach Sue Miller said, "My girls had their eyes set on second, but we lost second to Sherrard by four little bitty points, again...four little bitty steps-almost literally! Now we are focusing on regionals here at home where we would like to win! In the conference Fresh/Soph meet, we pretty much swept both the boys and girls with first place in both.  We had 9 of the top ten scoring positions. It was pretty cool since we had underclassmen/women in the varsity race.  Rockridge cross country is strong, and our program has great depth of character. We will keep improving!"

Scores for Sherrard runners were: Pettie: 19:29.55; Arial Harland, 21:20.56; Elaine Hast, 22:45.67; Kiersten Wallarab, 22:44.19; Alexandra Jones, 23:10.09; Rachel Murray, 23:55.44; Amanda  Johnson, 24:06.67.
