Mayor Gene Sims reported on the Dec. 13, 2008 Alexis Christmas Walk during the regular meeting of the Alexis Village board that was held Nov. 10 at the Community Center. Claire Barnhouse, chairman of the walk, was unable to be present.

Sims told of the schedule activities: breakfast with Santa at the Museum; Story Time with Santa at the Library; Candy cane hunt in Harkrader Park; Craft show at the Community Center and wagon rides provided by Fallen Oaks. Young Men's Club members will erect and decorate two Christmas trees, one in the Park and one uptown. Local businesses and organizations will sponsor their own promotions. Board members approved a donation of $500 to the walk. Volunteers are asked to contact either Barnhouse - 482-3549, or Joyce Cooley - 482-3673.

Board members and officials discussed changing the village clerk position to an appointment. Currently, the clerk is elected. When the current term is up, interested candidate would submit resumes which would be reviewed by the mayor, who would choose the best qualified. Board members would then either approve or disprove his choice.

The majority of the board members present, felt "the position should be changed to an appointment." According to village attorney Rom Stombaugh, who was present, "You put it in the form of an ordinance which I would then draw up and you'll vote on it at the December meeting." If the board approves the ordinance, the clerk position would not be on the slate at the village caucus in January. Stombaugh will draw up the ordinance.

In other business, Mayor Sims told board members that "the money for the grocery story hasn't come in yet. Over $6,000 more in hard promises is expected." Currently, the L.L.C. has about $14,000. Sims also reported that the liquor license must be purchased for a whole year at a cost of $1,200. The L.L.C. and members of the Grocery Store committee (Board members) will meet during the coming weeks.

In routine matters, the board approved the October meeting minutes, the treasurer's report and interfund transfer, and paying bill sin the amount of $7,285.

The date of the next board meeting is Dec. 8, 7 p.m. at Alexis Community Center.
