Drive safely this New Year
Illinois State Police Captain Jeffrey Patterson, District 7, would like to encourage everyone to remain safe throughout New Year's celebrations.
Before you go out - designate a sober driver! This is especially true on New Year's Eve. Not only will it save lives, but in 2009 penalties for Driving Under the Influence increase.
Some of those penalties include: longer driver's license suspension times, introduction of the BAIID (breath alcohol interlock ignition device) program, and other monetary fines. This is certainly not the way to start the New Year. Illinois State Police and law enforcement agencies in Henry, Knox, Mercer, and Rock Island Counties are continuously watching for the impaired driver and this holiday will be no different.
Make one of your New Year's resolutions to drive more safely. While sharing the road in 2009 make sure you and your passengers are always buckled up, obey the posted speed limits, and don't drink and drive. Make every effort to drive without distractions and make sound driving decisions.
Have a safe and happy New Year.
