Mercer County Hospital has been granted a Certificate of Need by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board in Springfield yesterday.  The approval by the Planning Board brings Mercer County Hospital once step closer to beginning a $10.5 million renovation including new mechanical system, single patient rooms, expanded physical therapy and laboratory.

Residents of Mercer County and surrounding communities have supported the renovation plans through volunteering and donating to a Capital Campaign by the Mercer Foundation for Health to raise $1 million.  The campaign was very successful and over $1 million dollars was pledged to support the hospital’s renovation.

Mercer County Hospital has one final step to be approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health before renovation can begin this spring.
