On March 18 Aledo City Attorney Mark Walton released the following statement: The City of Aledo denies that it has engaged in unfair labor practices as alleged by the International Union of Operating Engineers.

The City has negotiated in good faith with the Union, and as recently as March 17, 2009, the City asked the Union to engage in further negotiations with the assistance of a mediator. Unfortunately, the Union has taken the position that further negotiations are a waste of time. Instead, the Union has filed the current proceeding in an effort to force the City to accept its terms rather than continuing to negotiate with the City.

The City will contest the Union’s charges and will continue to work toward reaching an agreement with the Union that mutually benefits both the City and its police officers.
