Aledo has been without a permanent city administrator for the first five and a half months of this year, until Monday, June 15, when the council unanimously agreed to hire the current financial director Janice Green as its city administrator.

Green has worked for the city for nearly three years as the financial director. "June 18 is my anniversary date," said the Davenport woman. "The housing market is not very good right now, and I own a home there," she said. She has no plans to move to Aledo.

She said that when she initially interviewed with the city three years ago, it was as the financial director. She came to the city and made many changes. "I worked for several months before I found out the (financial director) position didn't exist," she said.

She talked about the accounting software being used three years ago. "I believe it was purchased in the mid '90s but it was software that was new in the mid '80s. It was not even Windows based software," she said.

Now the city's accounting software is state of the art. "We pretty much have one of the best governmental accounting software out there."

Prior to working in Aledo Green worked for the city of Davenport, six and a half years in the finance department and the remainder of time as the business manager for the River Center (Adler Theatre).

"I got to meet all sorts of famous people," she said. She also worked for six years in the private sector.

She says she has no plans to move to Aledo. Her initial salary was set at $56,000 annually.
