"Honest Abe!," an original musical by Derek Bertelsen, will be performed at the Central Park Bandshell in Aledo on Thursday, July 2, with music starting at 7 p.m.

The show features a cast of four local performers. Brad Moran, a 2007 graduate of Aledo plays the role of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. He is currently studying Music Education at Augustana College. Sylvia Puckett, a 2004 graduate of Aledo High School and 2008 graduate of Monmouth College plays the role of Mary Todd Lincoln. The narrator is played by Alison Coulter, also a 2004 graduate of Aledo High School and 2008 graduate of Monmouth College. Broderick Hoerner, currently a junior at Aledo High School, rounds out the cast. He plays numerous roles, including Stephen Douglas.

"Honest Abe!" chronicles the life of President Abraham Lincoln, following his life as a store owner in New Salem all the way to that fateful night in Ford's Theatre. The Aledo production will feature sixteen original songs, all written by Bertelsen.

Bertelsen is a 2003 graduate of Aledo High School and 2007 graduate of Millikin University in Decatur. He received his degree in theatre and directing. He's been working on his musical - formerly called "Abraham!" - for nearly eight years.

A tour of the musical was performed with The Little Theatre on the Square in Sullivan in 2008 and the show was performed locally at the Aledo Junior High School, the New Boston Grade School and Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre.

The Central Park performance will last about 50 minutes. The event is free with donations taken for the Bandshell. "Honest Abe!" is sponsored by WRMJ.
