The Township meeting this month will be held on Monday July 13 at 7 p.m. at the Eliza Community Center. The Board of Managers met July 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Eliza Community Center. Township meetings are open to the public.

July meetings of the Eliza Lions club will be at the Eliza Kountry Kafe on July 8 for the regular meeting and July 22 for their dinner/meeting. Meeting times are always 7 p.m.

The Lions and Lioness' will again be working the gate at the Mercer County Fair this year.

At the fair gate they will be collecting any old glasses, hearing aid equipment, or diabetic equipment that you may want to drop off to them. These items are recycled back into society by the Lions organization and make this activity a very worthwhile one.

If you are a person who enjoys people helping people, you really need to attend a Lions meeting at the Eliza Kountry Kafe on the second or fourth Wednesdays of the month. Thanks to the many Lions and Lioness' who donate so much back to their community and country.

The Eliza Lions Club is sponsoring its annual tractor ride on July 11 and hopes that all interested parties can work it into their schedules. The donation cost is $25 with profits going towards keeping this annual good time around for many years. It will also help the Eliza Lions continue to support the residents of Mercer County with assistance in vision, hearing and diabetes when called upon by need. They are the only Lions club left in the county and help a great many people every year.

They have chosen to name the event after Rudy Green who many of you knew for his love of preserving the history of antique tractors. This year's ride will leave the Eliza Community Center at 8 a.m. (registration at 7 a.m.-driver's meeting at 7:30) to mid morning break at Illinois City; then on to Andalusia through Loud Thunder forest preserve for lunch at Andalusia Lions Park. A great pulled pork sandwich lunch will be available for purchase from the Andalusia Lions Club. The return route will be up the river bluff to the afternoon break at Buffalo Prairie, and then back to Eliza. Entries should be able to maintain 12 MPH to keep up with the set pace, and carry the normal liability insurance. Any questions can be directed to the Ride committee Dave Frieden Sr. (309) 537-617 or Lewis Fowler (309) 537-3225 or Dick Nash (309) 537-3536.

The Eliza Lions are very busy this month in that they are also sponsoring the Hearing Screening Bus at the Mercer County Fair. It will provide free hearing tests administered by professionals on Wednesday, July 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
