News from Illinois City
Merle and Lori Meier and family enjoyed company over the 4th holiday with Merle's parents and extended family. They were in the Annawan area at a family friend's lake. They survived a rainy Saturday and enjoyed a sunny day on Sunday.
Alan and Brenda Fikes enjoyed a visit from their son and family, Tracy and Denise Fikes from Glenwood, Iowa. Tracy and Denise's children, Tyler, Kaitlen and Conner also stopped by for an overnight visit. The Fikes' daughter and family, Teri and Cole Waters and Jonah were here at the same time for a visit. All the family enjoyed two-year-old Jonah. A great time was enjoyed by all.
Maria and Chris McCalley and girls visited the upper peninsula of Michigan over the holiday. The girls learned how to water ski and spent most of the holiday in the water. A relaxing time was enjoyed in great weather everyday. Many cookouts were enjoyed with friends.
Illinois City Garden Walk will be held on Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Come and enjoy a walk in the country with a glass of Herbal Tea and snacks. Gardens featured are:
1. Sue - turn south in Illinois City, go approximately 3/4 mile it features container gardens - low maintenance gardens.
2. Maria - shade gardens - turn north in Illinois City go 1/2 mile.
3. Judy - gazing ball and garden lighting collection, right on route 92 in Illinois City.
4. Laura - from timber to perennials - herbs - annuals, 1/2 mile west Illinois City, on south side, follow lane through corn, watch out for signs!

Michael and Judy Halford hosted a 4th party for "trucker friends" who could not be home for the holiday. A steak cookout for 10 people and five dogs was enjoyed. Those who attended were from Washington State, Alabama and Kentucky.
We would wish Frances Krueger a happy birthday on July 19. Her 90th birthday will be celebrated at Illinois City Days. She will have a potluck after the parade in her yard with an open house to follow.
A happy anniversary to George and Marian McGreer. They were married on George's birthday on July 5.

Marty and Sheldon Farewell returned from a 15-day, 5000 mile trip to the Canadian Rockies. They enjoyed five National Parks on the journey, Jasper, Yoho, Banff, Waterton Lakes and Glacier. Many photogenic moments were captured. The wild animals and beautiful flowers were a highlight of the trip.
Bill and Lori Jarrett hosted a 4th party cookout with Wm and Annette Leopard and boys njoyed the evening. After supper the four-wheelers were put to fun by the boys. A rainy day made for fun four-wheeling.
Last but not least, we need to continue out prayers for Alexis Bassett of the Illinois City area. This energetic, cute five year-old continues to battle the illness of brain stem cancer. We need to keep her family in our thoughts also.
