Warner shining at WIU

Matt Warner caught two passes for 109 yards in Western Illinois University's first game of the season against Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas, Sept. 3. Warner's second quarter catch for 49 yards led WIU to tie the score at 14-14. He also caught a 60-yard pass for the Leathernecks. The WIU Leathernecks won the game 35-28.

The former Sherrard standout played all 11 games for the Leathernecks last year including five starts. He caught nine passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 30.4 yards per catch last year, a school record for tight ends.

As a sophomore he started nine games at tight end and appeared in all 11 of the team's games. He was the team's second leading receiver catching 15 passes for 235 yards.

As a freshman he was one of only two true freshmen to appear in all 11 games, primarily on special teams.

Warner is listed as 6-4 240 pounds.

He is majoring in exercise science.  He is the son of Mike and Diane Warner.
