The Mercer County Board has a new board member and his name is Dave Maynard. Maynard hails from Matherville, the same place as the man he is replacing, Tom Harris.

Harris resigned recently due to health concerns and Maynard agreed to fill his seat. "Tom Harris is a good friend of mine," said Maynard.

"I've lived in Matherville for 35 years," said Maynard. Before that he grew up in Viola.

Maynard served on the village board in Matherville for one term and is also a former village president. Maynard also served 16 years as the public works superintendent.

"I've always wanted to set on the county board," said Maynard.

Maynard believes the board has a lot of important decisions ahead of it. "I want to see if I can help." Maynard said property taxes are one of the areas he is interested in noting that his increased substantially this year. He is also interested in the transportation problems within the county.

He has been initially assigned to the economic development, animal control and law enforcement committees.

He and his wife Cheryl have been married for 28 years and have four daughters, JoLynn, Heather, Amber and Brooke.

He has been a businessman in the county for several years as former owner of Dave's Dairy Delivery and the Milkhouse Diner.
