Mercer County ranked third in latest poll

The Mercer County High School football team was ranked third in the state at 2A in the most recent Associated Press poll. The Golden Eagles are up from the fourth position after defeating the United Red Storm. Orion, which was ranked third, fell to sixth in the poll after its loss to Sherrard.

Sherrard moves up to sixth in the 3A rankings after being ranked eighth. Illini West, which gave Mercer County its only loss of the year, remains the top ranked team in 3A.

United fell from its fifth place ranking to eighth place in the Class 1A poll. Princeville rose from 10th to ninth in the state at 1A after defeating Stark County.
