Meeting dates in Eliza included the Eliza Board of Managers meeting and Eliza Community Club meeting on Feb. 2; the Feb. 8 township meeting, the Eliza Lions meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Eliza Kafe and Feb. 24 for the Eliza Lions Club dinner meeting at 7 p.m. at the Eliza Kountry Kafe.
Area churches will begin the Lenten season starting Feb. 17, with Ash Wednesday services to be held at 7 p.m. at Joy United Methodist Church, with a pancake supper at 6:30 p.m., before the service. County Line Ministries will hold community services during the Lenten season beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. A March 2 service will be held at Eliza Community Church starting at 7 p.m. The adult class studying “Faith and Work” will continue meeting at 9 a.m. through February. There will be no Ladies Aid meeting in February, with the next meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9.
The Eliza American Legion also will have no February meeting, with the next one scheduled March 1.
On Saturday, March 6 the Eliza Community Club will hold its eighth annual auction fund-raiser beginning at 10 a.m. Anyone wanting to donate items can contact Mary Lou Howe at (309) 537-3502 or Ronald Maas at (309) 537-3437. Items for the auction can be dropped off at the community center on Friday, March 5 between 5 and 7 p.m. The club is also offering to sell some larger items on consignment. Township of Illinois (TOI) officials are again sponsoring scholarships to graduating Illinois seniors, with seven $2,000 scholarships being awarded this year. TOI has, to date, awarded $190,000 to 117 students over the years.
The awards are given to high school seniors with grade point averages between 3.0 and 4.0 who plan to attend a two or four-year Illinois school on a full-time basis. There is a 500-word essay on township government, with an interview involved of a township official. Applications must be submitted (postmarked) no later than March 1, 2010.
