News From Illinois City

Laura McGinnis/Correspondent

The Illinois City Firefighters are in the final stages of completing their new firehouse. This has been quite an undertaking for a volunteer group.  Rikki Hetzler of the auxiliary reported that an area up front will be set aside for medical equipment for area residents in need. The Service Guild of the IC Church will catalog inventory that will be loaned out to area residents. This will be a great community service. We will announce a date for an Open House in the near future.

We are happy to share that two of our Illinois City residents, Dorothy Barber and Randy McGinnis are home and doing well from having some cardio-vascular surgery done.

Happy birthday goes out to Leora Feldman, Deb Wagamon, Barb Keller, Linda Siegenthaler, Tim Thompson, Berenyce Reed and Paulette McGreer. Happy Anniversary to Bill and Lori Jarrett.

Alan and Lori Ricketts enjoyed a trip to San Diego, California to visit a cousin of Alan’s. They were taken on many site seeing adventures. Lori said they had a great time.

Ralph and Lila Keller have returned home from their extended stay at Carrington House in Muscatine. They are doing well and the rehab went smoothly.

All “Women” of the Illinois City United Methodist Church had a mid-winter meeting on Feb. 8. A light meal was prepared and served at 5:30 p.m. by the Service Guild. A lesson about Dorcas, a disciple for Christ, was given by Paulette McGreer. Laura McGinnis, president of Service Guild, conducted a short business meeting. Marian McGreer displayed the carpet and flooring samples for the dining room and kitchen. This project will be completed in April.  Volunteers will be needed to paint the dining room area also. Elda Mier set dates for noodle making days. They will be on March 22 and 23 and then on March 24 if needed. The times will be 8 a.m. in the morning and 6 p.m. in the evening, with 12 volunteers needed to make it run smoothly and quickly. Barb Freyermuth announced the Woman’s Day at the church will be on March 20 and the theme this year will be Sweet Life Cafe. All area women are invited to attend. For more details, please contact 537-3242 or 537-3542. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
