Willard J. "Bill" Greer, 86, of Aledo, formerly of Seaton, died Thursday Aug. 12, 2010 at the Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo. A visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo.

A graveside services will immediately follow the visitation at the Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton. Memorials may be left to the Seaton Fire Department and online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.

Bill was born Sept. 18, 1923 near Seaton, a son of Robert and Olive Davis Greer. He graduated from Seaton High School and married Mary Frances Thune Jan. 24, 1946 in Thomasville, Ga. She died Aug. 22, 2002.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Bill owned and operated Greer's Texaco in Seaton for more than 50 years. He drove a school bus and was the fire chief for the Seaton Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

He was a member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge #252 AF & AM. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi, partying with the "boating bunch" and playing cribbage. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and longtime suffering Cubs fan.

He is survived by a daughter Billie Jean (Al) Dahlbach of Castle Rock, Colo., two sons; John (Judy) Greer of Peoria and Brad (Denise) Greer of Oakdale, Calif.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one brother, Tim (Pat) Greer of Aledo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Mary Jane, and one brother, Robert Jr.
