Louis D. Krantz, 96, of Joy died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the American Heart Association or Joy United Methodist Church. He was born June 21, 1914 in Muscatine County, Iowa, a son of John and Rose Carlson Krantz. He received his education from the Edgington Schools and married Pauline C. Brown June 21, 1937 in Rock Island. She died 1981.

Louis farmed in the Buffalo Prairie and Hamlet area and owned the former Hamlet Store. He was employed at Farmall in Rock Island and in 1958 he moved to Joy and was employed at the former Shale City Brickyard as a fireman. He retired as a mechanic with Eagle Foods in Milan.

He was a member of the Joy United Methodist Church, Andalusia Masonic Lodge #516 and was a former member of the Lion's Club. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, bowling and mowing the yard.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Cox of Des Moines, Iowa and Betty Davison of Moline; a son, John (Pamela) Krantz of Reynolds; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Violet Erickson of Moline, Gladys Reger of Kewanee and Marie Luallen of Galva.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters and four brothers.
