Alburtus H. Olson, 93, of Altona, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 in his home. Services were Saturday at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Burial was in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva or to the donor’s favorite charity. He was born Feb. 19, 1917 in Rio, to Hilmer and Florence Fors Olson. He attended Centennial school and married Celia L. Anderson Feb. 19, 1941 in Woodhull. She died Nov. 16, 2003.

Alburtus farmed in the Woodhull and Galva areas all of his life and was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva, the Rio Masonic Lodge # 685 and the Vasa Lodge. He owned a 1917 Oil Pull tractor and enjoyed sharing his interest in John Deere and toy tractors with all of his grandchildren. He was a soft-spoken simple man who enjoyed the simple routines of life, living for the farm. He regularly shared in coffee, conversation and the Swedish happenings of Bishop Hill. He enjoyed traveling having journeyed to Sweden in 1984 with Celia to research genealogy.

Survivors include a son, Ray Olson of Woodhull, four grandchildren, Erik Olson of Galva, Scott (Michelle) Olson of Cameron, Carlee (James) Good of Lake Oswego, Ore. and Leslee (Mark) Peachee of St. Charles, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Joann (Buck) Strode of Peoria.

His parents, wife, daughter Mary Jane Olson, son Gale Olson, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.

Grandpa Burt will be greatly missed for his strength, humor, and values of calmness, commitment, self-reliance, endurance and contentment.
