Denny J. Leith, 75, of New Boston, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010 at the Mercer County Hospital in Aledo. Services were Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Burial was in the New Boston Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Fippinger’s where a memorial fund will be established. Online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.
He was born March 16, 1935 in New Boston to Sylvester and Mable Jebb Leith. He graduated from New Boston High School where he played basketball. He married Shirley Ann Crooks Aug. 26, 1956 in New Boston. She died April 21, 2007.
He was employed as a farm hand for Butch and Marcella Carey after high school before taking a position with Lucky Foods Store in Milan. He retired as supervisor at Eagle Warehouse and Distribution Center in Milan after 42 years of service.
For many years, Denny did canvas work for area farmers and repaired leather and vinyl coverings. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, NASCAR and was an avid Illini fan. He especially loved his family and spending time with his faithful dog George.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy (Kevin) Ortberg of Joy, three grandchildren, Keith Ortberg, Travis (Jerica) Ortberg and Kimberly Ortberg, all of Joy, five great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kassie, Gage, Rylee and Samuel Ortberg.
His parents, wife, two sisters, Helen and Betty, and a brother, Roger, preceded him in death
