William J. Luxmore

William J. Luxmore, 83, of New Windsor, died Wednesday Nov. 17, 2010 in his home. Services were 1 p.m. Saturday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial was in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, New Windsor, where graveside Military Services were conducted. Visitation was 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor or Mercer County Home Healthcare.

He was born Sept. 23, 1927 in Galesburg to William and Gladys Gummerson Luxmore. He graduated from New Windsor High School and attended Brown’s Business College in Rock Island. He married Donna Jo Rosene Feb. 19, 1949 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Navy in China and Japan enlisting in 1945.

Bill was employed for 50 years with Plant Equipment Company in Rock Island starting his career there as a bookkeeper later becoming a salesman and then co-owner retiring in 2000. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed flea marketing. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Jo, five children, Richard (Kay) Luxmore of Sherrard, Terry Luxmore of New Windsor, Linda Rogers of Sherrard, Leonard (Brenda) Luxmore of New Windsor, Bradley (Deb) Luxmore of Rock Island, 13 grandchildren , 15 great-grandchildren with one lovingly expected, half-brothers, Carroll Bradshaw of Brimfield, Mike Bradshaw of Denver, Colo., half-sister Margie Browning of Pekin and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and a brother Robert Peterson preceded him in death.
