Clarence O. Peterson, 95, of Rio, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull.

Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, where graveside Military Services will be conducted. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services at the Church where memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church. Clarence was born Aug. 25, 1915 in Keosauqua, Iowa, a son of Oscar and Anna Nelson Peterson. He graduated from Alpha High School and married Marjorie M. Hanson April 9, 1939 in Woodhull. She died in 2000.

He worked on the family farm until taking a position in 1942 as a patrolman with the Illinois State Police. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WW II and returned to the State Police Force following the War. In 1949 he went to work as a bookkeeper in Galesburg and returned to farming in 1951 where he continued farming in the New Windsor area until retiring and moving to Rio in 1981.

He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull and the Rio Masonic Lodge # 685.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Peterson of New Windsor and Roger (Carol) Peterson of Galena; six grandchildren, Sherry, Brad, Angie, Abby, Chris and Kim; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Swanson and Marie Colburn, both of Galesburg and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife, a son, Gary and his wife Susan Peterson, two great-grandsons Sam and  Cody and two sisters, Helen Peterson and Frances Malmberg preceded him in death.
