Director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs to Visit the Quad Cities

Mary Cownie, the new Director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, will be making a stop in the Quad Cities on Friday, February 18 as part of a state-wide tour organized by the Iowa Museum Association.  The Family Museum will host a meet-and-greet event from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. for area museum and elected officials.  The Family Museum is located at 2900 Learning Campus Drive in Bettendorf.

In addition to the meet-and-greet event, Ms. Cownie will also visit the Figge Art Museum and the Putnam Museum/IMAX before returning to Des Moines.

Prior to joining the Department of Cultural Affairs as director, Mary Cownie worked in the Office of Presidential Advance at the White House under President George W. Bush.  She returned to Iowa in 2007 to become communications director for the Republican Party of Iowa and a community relations specialist for Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino. Cownie was born and raised in Des Moines. She is a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
