To honor our brave military men and women who have paid the price for our freedom, and all veterans who have worn the uniforms of this Great Nation.

Since its inception in the summer of 2004, one year after the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom, when a small group put together a special event to honor those brave souls who had made the ultimate sacrifice, the “Healing Field” annual event held at Davenport Memorial Park All Vets Memorial has grown exponentially.

The first few years were dedicated solely to those lost in Iraq securing the freedoms of the Iraqi peoples, those seeking out Al-Qaeda and Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan, and all first responders and civilians lost on 9/11.  Since 2008’s event, veterans of all eras have been included in this very special remembrance.

2008 brought about changes when several local support organizations banded together as the “All Era Veterans Healing Field of the Quad Cities” to ensure that all who have fallen in defense of this great nation will never be forgotten.

A display of over 100 flags, guest speakers representing present military, past military, wounded warriors, local veteran support organizations, etc., will offer remarkable insight into the spirit of this event during opening and closing ceremonies.

This year’s opening/closing ceremonies will be emceed by Talk Show Host Jim Fisher and will include several speakers from the military commands, veterans’ organizations, etc.  A new section of the Healing Field, honoring Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from OIF/OEF will be dedicated during opening ceremonies.  A patriotic concert featuring several groups and individuals throughout the day will be part of Saturday’s events, along with a private dinner hosted for the Gold Star Families from Iowa and Illinois.

As the Healing Field is open continuously from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, there is ample time for visitors to tour the site and talk with veterans and others on hand or just quietly reflect.

Opening Ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 26, with Closing Ceremonies beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28.
