Memorial Day—Drury-Reynolds Cemetery
The 110th Annual Drury-Reynolds Memorial Day Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 29, at the Drury-Reynolds Cemetery in lower Rock Island County, approximately four miles from Muscatine.
The guest speaker will be Aaron Koehler of the U.S. Army who has recently returned from duty in Egypt. The 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birthday will also be celebrated.
All veterans attending will be invited to participate in the Veterans’ March and Placing of the Wreath. The 21-gun salute will be performed by the VFW Post No. 1565 Honor Guard from Muscatine. Taps will be played by Janet Clark. Vocalist will be Stephanie Carey. Attendees will be able to place poppies on the graves of veterans.
One of the main objectives of the Memorial Day Service committee is to raise money to purchase grave markers for veterans. Our goal is to have all veterans’ graves marked as soon possible. Donations for this project will be collected at the service. If you are not able to attend, you may send your donations to Laurie Carpenter at 14505 284th Street West, Illinois City, IL 61259.
Refreshments will be provided, and please remember to bring a lawn chair. The service will be held rain or shine. For more information, call Diane Hessman at 537-3391 or Laurie Carpenter at 537-3231.
