Joy trio wins wins fireman's trophy

The Joy Fire Department trio of Bryce Retherford, Brad Retherford and Nick Thorndike won the fireman's battle at the Joy Community Festival June 11. Teams from Aledo and Joy competed for the Joy Department's new traveling trophy made from an old fire nozzle.
The is the second year for the water barrel contest. The LeClaire department won las year.
"The kids played with the hoses, it was a real crowd pleaser," said fire fighter Jeff Baldwn.
Earlier in the day the members of the fire department fed a crowd of about 300 people -- 135 pounds of sausage and 70 and a half dozen eggs.
Money raised from the firemen's breakfast will be used to purchase equipment for the department.
