City votes to sell Henderson lot to Aledo Fire Department

By a unanimous vote of the Aledo City Council a portion of city property located directly east of Aledo Central Park, will be sold to the Aledo Fire Protection District. A resolution and contract were approved selling .57 acres of the lot for $30,000, with the remaining .62 acres still owned by the city.
The fire district will also convey to the city its current fire station property at 202 NE 2nd Street, after the new fire station is built.
City Attorney Mark Walton advised that the plat prepared for the transaction needed to be tweaked, but that fact is "not going to be cause for delay."
Because the property is located on a state highway, it needs to be approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation, he said. "We're going to have to approve the Plat Subdivision," Walton added.
The fire department has a three-year time limit to begin construction, according to the agreement. The city will build on the remainder of the lot a parking area, fire truck filling area with driveways in and out, and maintain the remainder of the land as green space.
