D3 Senior Classic Names MC's Tanney a Preseason All-American

For the second consecutive year, Monmouth College quarterback Alex Tanney (Normal, Ill./Lexington) has been named a preseason All-American by the D3 Senior Classic.
Tanney, who earlier this summer was named to the D3football.com preseason second team, was the only Scot named to the D3 Senior Classic North squad. The D3 Senior Classic is sponsored by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) and honors only those players in their final year of eligibility.
The senior business major and two-time Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year was injured in the second game of the season last fall and will return this year for one last season with the Scots. Monmouth won Midwest Conference titles in 2008 and 2009 with Tanney under center. He holds most of the school’s passing records and enters his final campaign having thrown for 10,382 yards and 119 touchdowns. He is within range of breaking the NCAA Division III mark for yards (13,606), touchdowns (149) and completions (1,190).
It is Tanney’s ninth preseason All-American award during his collegiate career.
