Fifth annual Viola Threshers Reunion is Saturday and Sunday

The engine of the year is owned by Gary Graham the nephew of the builder, Rudy Blank. It is being restored, operated exhibited by Jason Schiess, also of Sherrard. Jason is quite capable of this as he was taught by the old engineers (Charlie and Alden Fricke, some of the same that taught Vtr pres Kim Graham )at the Mt Pleasant show, the largest steam power show in the world.

The fifth annual Viola Threshers Reunion is getting bigger by the year. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11 in Viola.

New to the reunion this year will be a full size operational saw mill. It was purchased in pieces and put tgether by Spud Young, Dan Engles and Kim Graham. It is 50 feet in length and will be on the end of the grounds near the camping and parking.

Also on the grounds will be a corn shucking demonstration. The organizers have planted about an acre of corn for the old time machines to harvest. John Shunick and Spud Young also helped grow oats and sorghum on the lot with seeds donated by CPS.

Also on hand both days will be Richard Humes the 2008 National Corn Chucking Champion. He will be on hand for corn shucking demonstrations on Saturday at 1 p.m. And Sunday at 2:15 p.m.

Saturday

Food

•7-9 a.m. - Breakfast by Royal Neighbors (Money raised goes back to the reunion.)

•10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Viola Masonic Lodge concessions

•11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Pork chop or pulled beef dinner by Viola Fire Department.

•Home made ice cream all day by the Viola United Methodist Church.

Schedule of Events

•9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Flea Market and arts and craft show. (About a dozen vendors)

•10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Blue grass and Contry music (Midnight Ramblings/Otis Eggen)

•There will be antique and scale model equipment operation all day including a live steam 7 ½ gauge railroad and a barrel train.

•10 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Threshing

•3 p.m. - Saved by Grace southern gospel music

•4:15 p.m.  - Tractor parade

Kids activities

•8 a.m. - ? - Book Budiees Book Sale

•10 a.m. - noon - Kids Fishing Derby

•1 p.m. Corn hucking demonstration w/kids contest

•2:15 p.m Pedal tractor pull and kids corn scramble

Sunday

Food

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Viola Masonic Lodge concessions

After church there will be homemade ice cream by the Viola United Methodist Church

Events

9 a.m. - “Saved by Grace” southern gospel and Ecumenical church service (There will be a Moment of Silence at  9:45 a.m.)

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Flea Market and arts and crafts

11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Threshing

1:15 p.m. Tractor parade

All day antique and scale model equipment  and live steam 7 1.2 gauge railroad and barrel train.

Kids Activities

2:15 p.m. - Corn shucking demonstration, pedal tractor pull and kids corn scramble.

The reunion is held on land owned by Dorothy Graham and Spud Young. The fishing contest is held on a  pond owned by Keith and Vicki Bloomfield who sponsor the contest along with Jim Morrison, owner of Morrison's Market.

They will be a park and ride shuttle from the campground. Handicapped individuals may use the main gate.
