Galesburg Carjacking

On September 21, 2011 at 8:15 p.m. the Galesburg Police Department received a report of a person injured and gunshots heard at 1470 North West St., Galesburg. Upon arrival of officers, the victim, Jarret J. Mason, age 26 of 1470 North West St., Galesburg was located in the rear parking area. Mason indicated that he was the victim of a carjacking.

Jarret Mason was transported to Galesburg Cottage Hospital by Galesburg Ambulance Service for injuries to head and face. Mason was treated and released.

Initial information indicated Mason was approached by two black males in the rear parking area of 1470 North West St., Galesburg. One of the subjects displayed a gun and struck Mason with the gun in the forehead. During the altercation, the gun was fired. Mason's injuries appeared to be from being struck with the gun and not from a gunshot wound.

The suspects left the area in Mason's vehicle. The vehicle was spotted a short time later by a Knox County Sheriff's deputy in the area of West Main and Linwood Road, Galesburg. The deputy followed the car as he waiting for other officers to arrie before attempting a stop of the vehicle. The driver of the car drove west, turned around traveling east back toward town when he suddenly stopped the car and fled on foot.

Officers from Galesburg Police Department, Knox County Sheriff's Department, Warren County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police joined in the search for the suspects. The suspects were not found.

Subsequent investigation into the incident has led to the arrest of:

Rontonio M. Guterez, DOB 3/15/91, 4129 South Prairie Ave, Chicago, for Aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery.

Issac Q. Jefferies, DOB 4/05/91, 6333 Sangomon St., Chicao, for Aggravated vehicular highjacking and armed robbery.

Robert E. Kimbell, DOB 11/05/90, 670 South Academy St., Galesburg, for Obstruction of justice.

Kione E. Moore, DOB 4/21/91, 111 East 49th St., Chicago for Obstruction of justice and Knox County warrant #10-CM-0445 for retail theft.
