Entries for Miss Blackhawk Valley pageants being accepted

The Board of Directors of the Miss Blackhawk Valley Scholarship Program announce that applications are being accepted for the 2012 Miss Blackhawk Valley Scholarship Pageant.  This Miss America Local Preliminary pageant is open to young women ages 17 to 24 that reside, attend school or work in Rock Island, Henry or Mercer counties in Illinois.  Miss Blackhawk Valley is the oldest continuous pageant in the Miss Illinois system providing scholarship opportunities for the young women for 63 years.  Each participant will receive a cash scholarship. The pageant will be held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Moline on March 3, 2012.  The new titleholder will compete for the title of Miss Illinois in June.

Miss Blackhawk Valley’s Outstanding Teen scholarship pageant will also to be held on March 3 and is open to teens ages 13 to 17.  The 17 year old must still be a junior in high school.  The titleholder of Miss Blackhawk Valley’s Outstanding Teen will go on to compete in the Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen competition and that winner will compete in a national competition, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in Orlando in August.

Additionally, there is a Youth Scholarship program that is also accepting applications. The Little Miss Pageant is open to girls ages 5 to 9 and Pre-Teen is open to girls ages 10 to 12. Miss Blackhawk Valley’s Pre-Teen will go on to compete for Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Pre-Teen competition. Winners and runners-up will receive scholarships to improve their talent.  The Youth pageants will be held at Glenview Middle School in East Moline on Feb. 11, 2012.

Orientation for all levels of the Miss Blackhawk Valley Scholarship Program will be held at 6:00 PM on Dec. 27 at Moline Public Library.  This orientation will provide information about the productions and the requirements for competition.  It is open to anyone interested in competing along with a family member.
