Calling her a “fighter who will stand up for the middle class in Congress,” former State Representative Bill Edley endorsed Cheri Bustos for Congress in the March 20 Democratic primary.

“Some candidates run to be something, others run to do something,” Edley said.  “Cheri is the real thing---an honest, intelligent and committed fighter for working families in the 17th District.  Now, more than ever, we need public officials like Cheri with the values, character and common sense approach to governing to get things done in Washington and not play partisan games.”

Bustos has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, Firefighters Local 581 and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.

Edley, a native of Canton, IL, served the 95th Illinois House District, which included Fulton and Henderson Counties, for three terms.  He is currently enrolled at the London School of Economics.

“I’m thrilled to have the endorsement of a tireless advocate for working families like Bill Edley,” Bustos said.  “We share a commitment to fight for economic security and against the assault on the middle class.”

Cheri Bustos is a working mother with three grown sons and is married to a captain with the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department.
