Durbin m eets with Quad Cities airport director to discuss support for regional transportation initiatives
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Bruce Carter, Director of Quad Cities International Airport and Chairman of the American Association of Airport Executives, to discuss regional transportation and infrastructure priorities. A photo of today’s meeting is available here. Carter has served as director of the Quad City International Airport since 1999.
“Quad City International Airport is a critical transportation link for central Illinois, serving residents and visitors safely, securely, and efficiently,” Durbin said. “Just last month, Quad City International Airport was named “Airport of the Year” by the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, which is a testament to its great value to both the region and the state.”
Last year, construction was completed on a federally-funded rehabilitation of the Quad Cities Airport’s main 10,000 foot runway. The airport received $34 million to completely reconstruct the deteriorating runway, including $3.7 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and $487,000 secured by Durbin in the 2009 Transportation Appropriations bill.
