Schilling Campaign Exceeds $1.5 Million Raised

U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-Colona) today announced impressive fundraising totals for the second quarter of 2012. The Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign has now raised more than $1.5 million during the 2011-12 election cycle, a record for a Republican candidate in the Illinois 17th District. Additionally, the campaign holds more than $945,000 cash on hand.

Schilling said that the vast majority of his campaign's donations come from individuals within the Illinois 17th District, a stark contrast to his opponent.

"Our supporters are out in force—this is truly a grassroots effort," Schilling said. "With the vast majority of our campaign's resources coming from small, in-district donations, these figures are proof that our common sense message of lowering taxes, balancing the budget, and leading by example is resonating with voters."

Schilling noted that there was still a great deal of work left to do.

"I'm proud of what we've accomplished so far, and we're going to keep going strong right through this election," Schilling said. "We continue to meet all of our goals, and our staff and volunteers have been working around the clock. I'm confident that we will have the resources necessary to get our message out and win in November."

The Schilling campaign raised more than $360,000 during the second quarter.

Bobby Schilling, a native of Rock Island, Ill., graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner, was elected to his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. Schilling rejected the congressional pension, turned down the congressional health care plan, and pledged to oppose all congressional pay increases. Schilling, who represents the Illinois 17th District, lives in Colona, Ill. with his wife and ten children.
