The Circuit Court of Mercer County headed by Judge James Conway, again denied the Kristopher Jones post conviction petition. Jones received 30 years and one day for the attempted murder and heinous battery when he poured gas on his wife which ignited. State's Attorney Gregory McHugh prosecuted the original case and has continued to fight Jones' various appeals.

After Jones initial appeals were denied by the Appellate Court he then filed a post conviction petition for a new trial. That was originally denied Jan. 27, 2010. With a new attorney Jones again claimed his constitutional rights were violated. That second petition has now also been denied.

Mercer County States Attorney Greg McHugh said, "This was a horrible crime and Kristopher Jones deserves every day of his 30-year sentence."
