National Public Lands Day Event at Shady Creek Recreation Area

The US Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project is looking for volunteers to help out with trail maintenance at Shady Creek Recreation Area on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 9 am to 12 pm as a part of National Public Lands Day. The maintenance tasks to be completed include cutting, hauling and stacking branches that are overhanging the trail and other general trail maintenance. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up by 4 pm on Friday, September 28, 2012. Please meet at the Shady Creek Recreation Area's picnic shelter the day of the event and bring gloves, shoes or boots and dress appropriately. In case of rain or other severe weather, this event will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2012.

Camping is available at Shady Creek and nearby Clark's Ferry Campgrounds. Camping reservations for Shady Creek and Clark's Ferry Campgrounds can be made on the web at or by calling Reserve America at 877-444-6777. Shady Creek Recreation Area is located between Muscatine, IA and Davenport, IA along Highway 22, about 10 miles east of Muscatine, IA. Clark's Ferry Recreation Area is located 5 miles east of Shady Creek Recreation Area off Highway 22 in Montpelier, IA.
