Opportunities abound for Mercer County 4-Hers
Mercer County 4-H in Aledo, IL has four new Special Interest 4-H Clubs starting this spring. Each club will meet six times to explore a specific topic and are open to all youth. Youth can join as many clubs as they would like. Here are the meeting details. Don’t delay, register today!
Robotics Club, Thursdays, April 4, 11, 18, 25 and May 2 and 9 at 6 p.m. at the Mercer County Farm Bureau Building, 206 3rd St., Aledo, IL. Explore the world of LEGO Mindstorm Robotics! Participants will learn how to build a LEGO Robot, how to work and add to their robot and how to program their robot to perform tasks. The club is open to youth ages 9 and up. Class size is limited to 20.
Cooking Club, Meets Saturdays from 10 – 11 a.m. and Wednesdays from 6 – 7 pm on April 13, 17, 20, 24, 27 and May 1.
Each week club members will make creative and nourishes dishes. It's open to ages 10 and up. There is a supply fee of $10. Meetings will be held at the Mercer County Farm Bureau Building, 206 3rd St., Aledo, IL.
Goat Club, Sundays May 5, 26, June 2, 9, 23 and 30 from 2 – 3:30 PM at the Mercer County Fairgrounds, Aledo, IL. Open to all youth ages 8 and older – even if you don’t have a goat – you can lease one for $1. Your leased goat will be waiting for you at each meeting or bring your own goat. Learn how to judge, select, feed, manage and show goats. Members will be ready to participate in the 4-H Goat Show at the Mercer County Fair on July 11. Limited to 15 youth – register today!
Sports Fishing Club, Saturdays May 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and July 6. The first meeting will take place at the Aledo Central Park, other meetings will be at various fishing locations. You’ll learn fishing and water safety, angling skills such as casting, baiting hooks, uses of different bait and tackle, equipment care, tying of fishing knots and more! Some supplies are required including a rod and reel. Details will be given at time of registration.
To participate in the 4-H SPIN Club program, there is an annual Program Fee of $20 for non 4-H members. This allows youth to participate in as many SPIN Clubs as they would like for that current year. Some SPIN clubs may require an additional fees for supplies. The Illinois 4-H program is conducted by University of Illinois Extension. County and state programs are directed by Extension staff who train and support volunteers who work with 4-H members. 4-H is always looking for additional volunteers who want to share their talents with youth.
