Alexis man killed in train accident

OPHIEM — An Alexis man was killed Friday in a collision between a BNSF freight train and construction equipment (a skid steer). The name of the 52-year-old skid steer driver was being withheld pending notification of family.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department was notified about the crash at the BNSF Main Street (County Road 700N) rail crossing in Ophiem at 11:59 a.m. Friday. The skid steer was traveling westbound through the rail crossing and was struck by a northbound BNSF train.
