New Sessions and Times Available for Bio-Diversity Day!

Bio-Diversity Day – a joint education and research effort of River Action and the Upper Mississippi Studies Center of Augustana College – will be held Saturday, Aug. 31 at Green Valley Nature Preserve, 5920 52nd Ave, Moline, IL form 8:00am-5:00pm.

This event is open to the public at no charge and will allow participants to engage with professionals to learn and create a comprehensive species inventory of the site – one of 63 QC Wild Places which have been identified in the region.

In addition to the hands-on field experience with local scientific professionals, the public is invited to engage in nature by going on a guided natural history tour, or spending the day exploring the Rock River by boat. In addition to plant, insect, soils, and reptile/amphibian inventorying, the new sessions and times that have become available for the event include:

Bird Inventorying - Get out of bed early and join our bird experts to identify the birds that inhabit Green Valley! (Session is likely to begin before 8am)

Natural History Tours – Learn about Green Valley site history with Drs. Norm Moline and Michael Reisner, Augustana College

· 9:00am-10:00am: History of Urban Planning in the Quad Cities

· 11:00am-Noon: History of Urban Planning in the Quad Cities

· 2:00pm-3:00pm: Large River Landscape Ecology and Restoration

Rock River Boat Tours – Explore the Rock River by boat with Dr. Reuben Heine, Augustana College

· 9:00am-11:00am

· 1:30pm-3:30pm
