WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, announced that on Friday, February 7th at 1:30 pm she will discuss the benefits of the bipartisan Farm Bill with local Farm Bureau members and others who stand to benefit from this important bill. The Farm Bill, which Bustos supported and recently passed both the House and Senate will be signed into law by President Obama tomorrow; it is the first comprehensive, five-year Farm Bill to pass since 2008.

The Farm Bill contains an amendment sponsored by Bustos that would quantify the impact upgrades to river transportation infrastructure, including the aging locks and dams along the Mississippi and Illinois River, would have on agriculture. The Farm Bill also provides for a stable and strong crop insurance program and maintains funding for programs that help feed hungry Illinois children and families.
