On Friday, March 7, Relay For Life hosted “Let’s Sock It to Cancer” Relay Kickoff at the newly expanded Mi Casa Mexican restaurant on East Main Street in Aledo. Socks were hanging all around the booths in the restaurant while attendees were ordering food. The socks were later given away as prizes.

Sue Hiscocks introduced the event with excitement. She shared this year’s theme, United We Stand Against Cancer. She is very excited about the event, calling it a “win-win”.

Mary Flint followed up with a passionate speech about what Relay For Life does. “It’s hard to put into words,” Mary said. “We provide hope. We fight back. We transform what we know about cancer into what we do about cancer. We fight cancer on all fronts.”

Mi Casa gave away ten percent of Friday’s entire sales as a donation to Relay For Life. It was reported that there were literally hundreds of customers on Friday. There were about one hundred or more that evening at the event.

The Mercer County Relay For Life event is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, at 11 AM in the Aledo Central Park. So far, there are 11 teams and 81 participants.
