‘Treasures of the Heart’ is the theme of this year’s Journey women’s event to be held Sat., April 5th, 9:15-2:30 at Aledo United Methodist Church, 301 N. College, Aledo. Doors open at 8:30 for registration and refreshments. Childcare will be provided for ages 10 and under.

The event is $12 per person and includes a delicious lunch. Scholarships are available. This is the fifth year for The Journey and attendance has increased each year. Last year 150 ladies attended.

Women of all ages will enjoy a day of pampering, praise, and personal reflection. There will be women in the chapel throughout the day for all who need prayer. All prayers will be kept confidential.

Four special ladies will share the treasures of their hearts as they relate to their faith journey.

Julie Balmer will be joining us from the state of Kansas. Julie is married to former Aledo resident, John Balmer. Though faced with heartbreaking trials in the past few years, Julie feels her faith has never been stronger and it is her faith and hope that gives her the strength to face each new day.

Dr. Martha Thornton is a podiatric physician and surgeon here in Aledo. Each morning she asks Jesus to come into her life to bless her family, home and lie. She also thanks Him for all of her blessings.

Alpha resident Lindi Kernan describes herself as a recipient of God’s grace and mercy who wants others to know there’s hope and healing for the broken. Through her life experiences, she especially has a heart for women who are hurting and young girls facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Retired Major Amy Hess of Aledo is the founder of Adonai Community Support Services which assists veterans with a multitude of issues. She states, “In 2002, I deployed to Saudi Arabia. I hit the desert and I hit my knees. I gave my life back to Christ knowing I had made a complete mess of it.”

Pre-registration for The Journey is highly encouraged, although walk-ins are welcome. For information or to register, contact Ruth Dulaney at laney3@mchsi.com or check the church’s website www.myaledoumc.com. You may also call Mary Flint at 582-7615.

This is a chance for women to “get away from it all” and enjoy fellowship, worship, inspirational stories, music, and prayer together.
